The mythical mermaid – I always wished to be a mermaid as a little girl, I imagined myself shooting through the water with my shimmering tail with looooooong hair floating around in a cloud around me. And most little girls want to have a mermaid-themed party at SOME stage! It’s really a lovely theme to have, and fairly easy to decorate in super-pretty, mermaid and oceanic details.
When my friend Kirsty’s little girl Mia wanted a mermaid party, we immediately jumped at the opportunity to design decorations to accompany the Gold Glitter Mermaid party invitations we have with a full mermaid party set. The Gold Glitter invitations feature a beautiful mermaid with her gorgeous tail curling around, and a giant birthday year number in bold gold glitter. The year is not editable but all the rest of the information on the invite is. The years go from 1 – 10 years old.
So, let’s go ‘deep’ into the sea and uncover the rest of the mermaid party.
Take a moment to smell the fresh ocean breeze for a second and check out the Mermaid Party table. Where do we start? Well, we used the ‘triangle’ shape of different heights (Tallest point in the middle and objects in descending height order) as this creates interest and a symmetry in the table layout. Color wise – the cake and food is very light with pastel hues, but then this is livened by the balloons and the bolder colors in the printables designs.
The balloon garland utilized pearly balloons in pinks, blues, sea green and purple. Interest is added by blowing them up to different sizes, and adding some greenery amongst the balloons. The gauzy, shimmery backdrop was created using ribbon, but streamers or material strips could work just as well. My friend’s husband created and painted a wooden mermaid tail, ít’s pretty cool but not a ‘must-have’ so don’t worry if you don’t have a handy mermaid-tail-fashioning woodworker at home!
An editable, mermaid themed party banner and sea foam green tassles gave the front of the table interest and oomph.
One of the really effective and super easy bits about decorating a mermaid party is that you can go to the dollar store and get LOADS of ‘pearl’ strands, sea shells and glitter starfish and sea creatures. If you live near the ocean or have been on holiday recently, you might have some real shells and driftwood for decor.
Now, as with any good party worth it’s ‘salt’ we need to look at food ideas. Let’s go!
Cute, cute, cute! Editable cupcake toppers featuring the aquatic mystery world. Use icing, biscuits, small pearl sweets or shells to decorate. Check out the two tone incing whorls for a marine detail.
Use the editable food labels in the party set to come up with some mermaid fun! Green liquorice candy for ‘seaweed’.

The party favors – hairbands in pearly blue and pink with sparkly glitter starfish, some pretty tulle and cute hair clips where snapped up with delight, and the editable party favor tag added that lovely last detail to a perfect mermaid party.
