Kappppooooowwwwwww! Whoosh, Zap, Bam…nothing subtle or gentle when it comes to a boy’s superhero birthday party! Superheroes – one of those party themes that every boy wants at least once. Think bat mobiles, super powers, alter-egos, night vision, flying, capes and lots and lots of saving the day!
Lou’s gorgeous ‘middle’ boy William, fondly known as ‘Will’ wanted a power-packed fifth birthday party. He wasn’t content to choose ONE of the ‘big three’ (Superman, Spiderman and Batman), I mean, why have one when you can have all your superheros together and eat cake at the same time?
So, we brought on the lightning bolts and zapped up some kryptonite to pull this colourful, magical and vibrant superhero shindig together! We contacted Alicia from ‘Gracefully Baked’ to whip up the three-tiered confectionary of super-power cake. A gorgeous, brightly-colored cake like this one makes for an awesome party table centre piece, all the little ‘oooohs’ and ‘aaaahs’ make it totally worth it!
Lou’s creativity is boundless, but she definitely got by with a little help from her friends this time! When it comes to designing and sewing, Lou turned to the ‘Talented Tee’ (aka Tarryn) for some inspiration! Using a pattern T had previously cut for children’s capes, Taryn whipped up 12 x A-M-A-Z-I-N-G double sided capes for the coveted party favors. She used a shiny, waxed cotton weave, in both blue and red, so the cape is double-sided – so awesome. If waxed-cotton weave all sounds a little daunting, you can actually use any cotton-like fabric.
And on the party rocked! Lou didn’t need to hire in entertainers, the capes and choice of superhero masks was enough – off Will and his friends scampered (or flew, or climbed, or swooped) having a marvellous time and super charged with kryptonite!
Give the photos a glance for some heroic ideas and inspirations!
Vibrant and energetic – Will’s superhero table.
The starring role was reserved for the three tier superhero cake. But jostling for position are the sticks of kryptonite (green rock candy sticks), amazing layered jelly cups and gorgeous yellow-frosted cupcakes! Bring in a pow-erful background to set the scene – just download and print.
The kids adored these printable party masks. Grab your set of designs, print and cut out for loads of hero play fun.
These gorgeous party capes / party favors did not stay on the rail gently blowing in the breeze for long. As soon as the kids realized they were for THEM, to play with and take home as party favors, they were in hero heaven!
‘Hope you had a blast’ party favor tags looked awesome looped around the capes.
Flying around being heroic can make you VERY thirsty! That’s why you’ll need a nice big container of superhero punch.
Your superhero finding it a little tough to see in the dark? All he needs is a little bat vision and he’ll be sorted – awesome party favor tag!
It looks difficult, but it’s actually not. Captain Jelly food labels and perfectly stripy jelly cups! Get the recipe on our Pinterest board.
Green generally means ‘good for you’ but in this case – ???? But just LOOK at that color! It’s pure beauty! Printable flags wrap around any party food on a stick to add some ‘bang’ to your party table.
Most kids would LOVE to have the power to be invisible! But this time, the candy got the power! Mom’s best type of candy – it doesn’t exist! We have to have our own fun too!
I see you Batman! So simple, yet sooo effective. Download these drinks labels and get your scissors out, the kids will LOVE you for it.
In summary, Will and his friends LOVED the superhero party. The capes and masks were a huge hit, as was the superb cake and tasty treats. Make sure you make yours loud, proud and bright – there is no room for pastels or wallflowers with this party theme!
