The Franschhoek Valley – first settled by French Huguenot refugees in 1688 – mixes magical ingredients to create unforgettable experiences. Franschhoek is the gourmet capital of South Africa, and its restaurants will treat you to cuisine that is delectably indulgent – ranging from gourmet to rustic with something to please every palate.

Franschhoek’s wine estates encircle the village. On these award-winning wine estates acclaimed winemakers create glorious wines. Tantalise your taste buds with wine tastings overlooking the vineyards where the grapes were harvested; each one an exceptional experience heightened by the beauty of its setting in one of the most beautiful wine valleys in the world.

The Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival takes place from December 4 – 6 and celebrates traditional sparkling wine, such as cap classique – which is the South African name for wines that are made bubbly by virtue of their second fermentation in the bottle.

“In Franschhoek we believe life is about experiences and the best experiences are the ones involving the ‘magic of bubbles’. It’s for this reason that we hold the annual Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival – where the finest South African Cap Classique and French Champagne flows for an entire weekend,” says the organisers.

Spend the Champagne festival weekend popping corks, filling flutes, sipping vivacious bubbly and snacking on delicacies prepared by some of the valley’s gourmet masterminds.

This year a brand new element is also introduced to the festival, namely “The Romance of Bubble.” On Friday the 4th of December, from 18H00 – 22H00, you can enjoy a cocktail event under the stars.

Entrance fee is R180 per day and visitors will be given complimentary wine tasting coupons and a glass.
