Birthdays are magical occasions that mark another year of growth and milestones for our little ones. I mean you know how much we love a birthday around here…that’s kind of why we exist!!
As parents, we cherish every moment, knowing how quickly time flies. To capture the essence of these precious years, we have started a tradition of conducting annual birthday interviews with our little ones (and the not so little ones any more, sniff, sniff). These simple yearly interviews spark so much joy and hold such significance for me that I decided I just had to share them with you too! So, put on your party hats and join me as we dive into the precious world of birthday Q&A chats with our kids!
1. Setting the Stage:
Birthdays are like personal New Year’s days for our kids. They provide an opportunity to reflect on the past year and look forward to the adventures that lie ahead. Our birthday interviews have become a somewhat treasured tradition in our family. We set the stage by creating a cozy and festive atmosphere that is free from distractions, allowing the birthday boy or girl to express themselves freely. Sometimes this may require a little elbow grease prying that new action figure out of freakishly strong tiny hands, but it’ll be worth it, I promise!
2. The Questions:
The heart of these interviews lies in the questions we ask. They are designed to capture the essence of our child’s personality, dreams, and aspirations. From simple inquiries about their favorite color or food to more profound questions about their dreams and fears, we cover a wide range of topics. Each year, I tailor the questions to reflect their growing interests and evolving personalities. This allows me to witness their progression and gain valuable insights into their thoughts and emotions.
Ok, but where do you capture these fleeting memories? Scribbling it down on a piece of paper just doesn’t do it justice and typing it out on a boring old Word doc is equally bland. That’s why I couldn’t resist creating these birthday interview templates that you can edit every year and use until your kids fly the coop! I’ve created a birthday interview sheet for boys and a birthday interview sheet for girls, but there are no rules here! Use whichever they prefer!

As I document their responses year after year, I get to witness the transformation that occurs within them first-hand. I can look back on their previous interviews and marvel at how their interests and perspectives have evolved. It’s a testament to the fleeting nature of childhood and the importance of cherishing these beautiful, care-free moments of innocence. You know, before you’ve got to do this thing called paying bills and manage a team of tiny, sassy human.
