As two moms who run a business that revolves around party planning, when it comes time
for our own little one’s parties, it is fundamental to our party planning philosophy that we keep it simple and easy for others to recreate! This year, our Hannah decided she would like a kitty adoption themed party, so we rose to the occasion and had so much fun putting it together!
Before you panic, no…you’re not going to be sending each party guest home with a real-life kitten! But they will be getting a new furry friend to add to their toy collection – yippee! The kitty adoption party theme is easy to achieve – simply personalise, download and print out the party printables, provide some snacks and refreshments and thats it! You can get the look easy as that! No fancy fondant or balloon garlands that take you into all hours of the night!
The invitations
To get the party started, we designed a super cute kitty adoption party invitation, complete with a litter of adorable kitties to ooh and aah over! You can customise all the text with your party details and then print them out or send digitally.
Setting Up The Feline Scene
We didn’t go OTT with the décor – to keep the kitties the star of the show of course – sticking to one colourful snack table. We’ll include some close up snaps of the table below, but all the printables we used here, including the bunting, food labels and masks, are included in our kitty adoption party set.
Hannah’s cake was topped with mini bunting, a kitty and kitty house (all included in the set). We creatively iced cake pops to look like “yarn balls” to add to the feline vibes, plus scattered a handful of pom-poms we picked up at the art store around the platter and table as “kitty toys.”
The kitty adoption party set is inclusive of rainbow striped printable cupcake wrappers as well as printable cupcake toppers. You can edit the numbers and letters to your daughter’s age or initials.
We had a little fun when it came to snacks…let’s start with some savouries! Everyone loves crunchy pretzels, so pop a couple pretzel sticks in a mason jar and label them as kitty “scratching posts.”
Next up, we popped some marshmallow fish in a jar and labelled them as “cat snacks.”
We all know how much kitties love yarn, so why not turn it into a snack?! We found some strands of liquorice that resemble strands of yarn and popped them into a glass jar.
Some kibble the humans will enjoy – colourful jelly eggs labelled “kitty feed.”
As we mentioned earlier up in the post, we iced our cake pops to look like yarn balls, which also make for a tasty snack!
Lastly, who doesn’t love a kitty collar you can also nibble on!
For refreshments, we popped some pink lemonade into a dispenser and used one of the food labels from the set to label it “kitty lemonade.”
The kitty adoption station
Now the whole point of this party is for each guest to go home with a newly adopted furry friend of the toy variety. The set includes a kitty adoption box and adoption certificate, so all you need to provide are some plush kitties for the partygoers to “adopt.” The adoption certificate makes the addition of a new furry (toy) family member official allowing the little girls to name their kitties and sign over official “ownership!”
We used an old dog kennel Cath’s parents had stored in their garage and gave it a fresh coat of paint to use as our kitty adoption centre! After the party, the kennel was donated to the local SPCA.
The adoption boxes can form part of a party activity where the girls decorate their kitties new “crate.” They also double as a favour, so you can attach the included favour tag on the box as well.
We also included some kitty masks in the set for the girls to wear, that includes a Siamese kitty mask, ginger kitty mask and black or grey kitty masks.
Not only is a kitty adoption party a really fun, unique way to celebrate a birthday, it’s also a great opportunity to teach kids the importance of adopting rescues and showing compassion to four-legged friends.
