My Sophia is horse crazy. She has been since birth, it is in her and it is just part of who she is. For me that does present a challenge as every year when I ask her what party theme she would like for her birthday and I always get the same answer, a horse party. My Mom brain does a small twitch and I always say, ‘Sure, no problem’, but internally I am doing an eye roll and think, why again, but never-the-less I will find a way to make it work but still create a different party from the last year.
So this year we decided to go to a art studio where the birthday girl selects what she would like to paint and the art teacher instructs the group on how to create and paint the beautiful artwork. No prizes for guessing the art subject matter was a horse, so we needed to create a dessert table to match. So, at this 11 year old, tween age this was a great way to spend the party when jumping castles are no longer cool.
We went with a show jumping twist on the horse theme, which created some new elements for us to work with. Between horse tack, jumps and rosettes we have been able to create a really fun, colorful and varied horse party theme for our horse loving little lady.
With our horse invitation design, we created this beautiful bay horse jumping between two hedges, accented with elements of tack, show jumping jackets and trophies below. All brought together with colors of pink, purple, blue and green.
For the party table we started with a white background behind the table to keep it light and fresh with a pink/purple banner with the Birthday girls name, for a pop of color. We have placed two mini tree’s at the back of the table for some symmetry either side of the cake and a touch of greenery is always lovely to add to any party table. We used a white table cloth to keep it simple and placed a purple and white diagonal striped pennant banner in front of the table to break the white of the table cloth.
For our Horse Show jumping birthday cake, we decided to go with a chocolate cake with purple icing for another fun bit of color that co-ordinates with the banner above. A sprinkle of coconut ice that had a bit of green food coloring to act as grass on top of the cake and then finished off with our printables that we cut out, stuck onto some wooden sticks and placed into the cake and that is a simple but super effective party themed cake.
For our party favors we made these white chocolate horses with a bit of funfetti thrown in for a touch of color and attached these cute custom favor tags for the personal touch.
As we were having the party at a venue, I got some very solid advice from my party planning bestie, Lou – to rather put all the party snacks and treats for the kiddies in a gable box. It just makes transporting all the bits to the venue a whole lot easier and then the girls can have their treat box next to them for a quick snack while they painting.
We designed these adorable water bottle labels to add onto the ‘not so pretty’ water bottle we bought from the local grocery store. All the text is editable on these printables so you are able to customize and create the printable to work for whatever you would like.
Another fun part of setting up a party table is finding fun, theme related food names for all the snacks on the party table. Like ‘Salt licks’ for the mini meringues and ‘Trotting Treats’ for the chocolate horses. All the snacks went down a treat, so there was more eating and not too much talking during the art lesson, which I am sure the teacher was most grateful for with this bunch of chatty girls;)
My Sophia had the most wonderful birthday with all her friends, creating beautiful art and memories! Along with having some delicious treats, what more could you ask for in a birthday party!
