I’ve already shared my phobia of messy party eating with you. And I’ll say it again – who wants to eat party food that is difficult to eat standing up or makes an embarrassing mess everywhere? Really, who?

So I’m always looking for great party food that is easy and tidy to eat! Of course it must be eye-rollingly, lip smackingly, make-a-little-piggy-of-yourself delicious too!

With Spring in the air and Fiesta everywhere, I’m not short on inspiration! This Mexican party food layered dip in individual servings RULES! It’s tasty, it’s healthy and fresh, and it rocks a party!

Individual 5 layer Mexican Party Flavor Dips

Another requirement – you want your party food to look special, to pack that little bit of visual punch. You KNOW you do!

So, I created an absolute box ticker of a recipe to share with you!

  • It’s neat and clean and easy to eat.
  • It’s FIVE layers of delicious.
  • There is nothing UNHEALTHY in it.
  • It looks damn cute, all the differently colored layers in a little glass jar.

It’s basically 5 different colored layers – mince, guacamole, sour cream, grated cheese and salsa, layered in a little glass pot or jar so it looks pretty. Because it’s in little glass containers, each one is for one guest to eat with a little spoon. No mess, no fuss! It follows in the same style as the Mexican Street Corn Pasta Salad with lime and cilantro dressing I did last week.

Five Layer Individual Mexican Flavor Di

As you dip your spoon in and dig a little to the bottom, you get a riot of 5 flavours dancing around in your mouth! When you take a look at the recipe below, it might look like a LOT, but it’s not really. You CAN totally buy a ready-made guacamole and use leftover mince from dinner, to shorten the prep time and number of ingredients. I promise, no-one will judge!

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients for the mince:

  • 1/2 tbs olive oil
  • 150g ground beef
  • 1 tbs taco seasoning
  • 1/4 tin diced tomatoes
  • salt to taste

Ingredients for the guacamole:

  • 1/4 shredded red onion,
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/2 chopped chili
  • Sprinkle of paprika,
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Ingredients for the salsa:

  • 1/2 a finely chopped tomato
  • 1/4 chopped red onion
  • 1/2 chopped chili
  • 2 tsps chopped cilantro
  • Squeeze of lime juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Other ingredients:

  • 1/2 tub sour cream
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

For Garnishing:

  • Lime slices
  • Taco chips
  • Sprinkle of cilantro

Instructions

To make the mince:

  1. Add olive oil to pan and fry mince, breaking up finely using a fork.
  2. Add taco seasoning.
  3. Add tinned tomatoes and salt to taste.
  4. Cook for a further 10 minutes.
  5. Make sure the mince mixture is fine enough to place into individual glasses.

To make the guacamole:

  1. Combine all the ingredients together
  2. Mash with a fork, or whizz with a blender

To assemble your layers:

  1. Start with mince, then guacamole, then sour cream, then grated cheese, then salsa, top with garnish
  2. It really helps to make it look neat if you wipe down the sides of the glass with a cloth between each layer to give that gorgeous color definition. It is also great to stamp each layer down a bit with the back of a teaspoon so there are no air bubbles.
  3. We used a slice of lime, a couple of olives and some of the red onion on top to garnish.

Notes

  • You can store these in the fridge until ready to serve
  • If you do not have sour cream, you can use normal cream with 1 tbsp of lemon or lime juice per 250ml to make sour cream.
